Invited by the Key Laboratory of Noise and Vibration Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Distinguished Professor Bai, Ming-Sian from the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) visited the Institute of Acoustics, CAS and shared his research interests titled “Telecom, Electroacoustics and Audio (TEA) in a Nutshell” on August 8.

In Dr. Bai’s lecture, he introduced his four selected research interests, including: audio signal processing, telecom acoustical signal processing, microphone array and electroacoustic transducers. Besides, his research results of 3D recording and reproduction (WFS/Ambisonics/ESM/BFM), microphone array sound source localization and special sound synthesis were demonstrated in his video.

In his talk, Dr. Bai brought the latest research progress of audio acoustics, which had expanded and deepened the audience audio acoustic research and application understanding.

Dr. Bai’s Research Interests

Dr. Mingsian R. Bai received his Ph.D. in engineering mechanics and aerospace engineering from Iowa State University in 1989. As a Tsing Hua distinguished professor, he has published 115 archive journal articles, 60 conference papers and 6 books in the areas of acoustics, audio signal processing, and electroacoustic transducers. He has more than 40 granted or pending patents. His current interests encompass acoustics, audio signal processing, telecom acoustics, microphone arrays, electroacoustic transducers, vibroacoustic diagnostics, active noise and vibration control, and so forth. He is in charge of the Telecom, Electroacoustics, Audio (TEA) laboratory of National Tsing Hua University. He currently serves as an active consultant and project leader in these areas in industry. He has received numerous academic awards including the Outstanding Research Award from National Science Council in 2006 and 2010.
