(From JIANG Bin of Communication Acoustics Laboratory) Invited by Communication Acoustics Laboratory and Key Laboratory of Noise and Vibration Research, Dr. Judit Angster visited IACAS and gave an academic report on June 25, 2011. The title was "Survey of the Musical Acoustics Research at Fraunhofer IBP in Stuttgart, Germany". The report was chaired by Prof. Wang Xiaolin.

Dr. Judit Angster was born in Hungary. Her family had a long history of building pipe organ. Her great grand father found the Angster Organ Building Company in 1867, which was the largest organ building company in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. To follow family tradition, Dr. Judit Angster focuses on organ research or related field. At present, she is the manager of musical acoustics and photo-acoustics group at Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik IBP, Germany. She is well up in musical acoustics and organ research. She is the president of the musical acoustics society in Germany.

In the report, Dr. Judit Angster firstly introduced the background and aim of musical acoustics research at IBP. Then she gave several examples to explain how to use the modern measuring techniques and simulation methods to advance the research and development of pipe organ. Besides the theoretical research, she promoted the transformation of research results into industry. Through close cooperation with organ builders, she helped the organ companies to improve the quality of pipe organ. Finally, Dr. Judit Angster proposed an international cooperation research to strengthen and support the cultural heritage of traditional Chinese musical instruments.

Focusing on some hot spots on musical acoustics, the researchers and students took lively discussion with Dr. Judit Angster. The participants thought they had obtained much knowledge in the fields of musical acoustics, especially in the realm of pipe organ research.
