The construction-starting ceremony for the new research ship was held in Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. on Dec.22, 2007. Presented at the ceremony were the leaders of IACAS, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, Shen Yang Institute of Automation, Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, the Qinghuangdao Branch of China Classification Society, the 702 Institute and 711 Institute of CSSRC. The leaders and staff member delegates of Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. also attended the ceremony.

The construction-starting ceremony was the milestone in the whole process of the research ship construction, as well as the symbol of the closer cooperation between CAS and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. At present, the new ship was under full construction. It was predicted the new research ship could be put into use at the end of 2008.
