On Nov.26, 2007, Mr. LONG Shiguo of Xiangtan University and Mr. HUANG Baohua of Daqing Petroleum Logging Company visited our institute and gave wonderful reports in the Multifunctional Hall of DSP Building.

The report Mr. Long gave us titled "The application of Rare earth giant magnetostrictive transducer in sonic nondestructive testing". In his report, Mr. Long first made a review of the application situation of sonic nondestructive testing. Then, he introduced the advantages ofRare earth giant magnetostrictive transducer, which was researched and developed by him and his group. He explained the basic theory and working system of the device and exemplified the successful cases of the device in practical projects. At last, he quoted an old saying -- A workman must first sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well, to illustrate the important role of transducer in nondestructive testing.

The report Mr. HUANG gave us titled "Interpretation of low porosity and low permeability reservoir logging and sonic logging technique". Mr. Huang engaged in the logging data processing and explanation for a long time. As the first part of his report, he introduced the classification of the logging methods and their advantages and disadvantages to get the parameters of formation lithology and formation physical. Then he also took some examples to show the uses of these methods in practical petroleum exploration and pointed out the problems of these methods. At last, Mr. Huang said there was still a long way for us to go to catch up with the fist-class level in the world. He hope there would be more cooperation between the institutes and companies, which was sure to be beneficial to upgrade the petroleum logging level in our country.
