The 36th International Congress and Exhibition on Noise Control Engineering (INTER-NOISE 2007) was successfully held in Istanbul, Turkey from Aug.27-31, 2007. The main theme of the conference is "Global Approaches to Noise Control". All together 911 delegates joined the conference; 52 exhibitors displayed their products in the exhibition; 599 papers were presented in the congress. The 4 distinguished lectures covered the following areas: Global approaches to noise control; Psychoacoustics, sound quality and music; Sound insulation of buildings and Modal Analysis and Noise. Under the leadership of Director TIAN Jing, a delegation of 15 members of our institute attended the conference.

The conference contents included various topics of noise and vibration control engineering such as environmental noise, building acoustics, soundscape, sound quality, noise and vibration control, noise policies and management, numerical techniques, modeling and simulation, signal processing and test facilities, noise mapping, NHV and so on. There were also two workshops one on the Global Noise Policy and the other on the Noise Policy in Developing Countries. Director TIAN Jing was invited to deliver a speech in the workshop. From the national law, management methods issued by government and standard system, he detailedly introduced and analyzed the Environmental Noise Policies and Measurement Systems in China. The professors participated in the workshop highly praised the achievements we have got in noise control and positively put forward constructive suggestions from different aspects.

Inter-noise was a series of academic and technical exchanges sponsored by the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE). Since 1972, it had been successively held for 36 times, and the 16th one was held in Beijing in 1987. Owing to the restless efforts of Acoustical Society of China (ASC) and our excellent scholars, we successfully won the host right for the Inter-noise 2008, which would be held in Shanghai from Oct. 26-29, 2008. On behalf of the ASC and IACAS, TIAN Jing, the president for the next congress sincerely extended invitations and warmly welcomed all the delegates to the Inter-noise 2008. Director TIAN used the colorful presentation to introduce the preparatory work from different aspects on the -INCE Board of Directors Meeting, Plenary meeting, Next Congress Planning Meeting and Closing Ceremony, respectively. The presentation received good effects and high praises. It was believed that the Inter-noise 2008 would be a grand gathering in the field of International Noise Control Engineering. The Organizing Committee hoped the related institutes and scholars would make more efforts and present a technically successful and personally enjoyable Congress to all the attendants.
