On Jul.31, 2007, the signature ceremony for the joint Underwater Security Guard Engineering Center was held in Shanghai. This new center was cooperatedly established by CAS Institute of Acoustics (IACAS) and Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute (SSSRI). Deputy Director Zhang Chunhua, Director Assistant Yi Hong, Director Ku Weiqun of Science and Technology Department and Director Xu Feng of Image Sonar Technology Laboratory from our institute and Deputy Director Cai Huixing, Director Assistant Yang Yang, Director Li Wenhui of Underwater Electronic Department of SSSRI attended the ceremony. Deputy Director Zhang Chunhua and Deputy Director Cai Huixing signed the agreement on behalf of the two parts.

In recent years, many countries all over the world, especially the western countries plunged vast sum of money and attention to develop the underwater security guard technology and production. IACAS has been devoted to the underwater acoustic research for a long time. In order to follow the international trend, our institute developed a series advanced security guard technology and production. Furthermore, it signed the cooperation agreement with the Sailboat Racing organizing committee of the 29^th Olympic Games and will provide security service for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Regatta. SSSRI was one of the biggest comprehensive research center engaged in communication and transportation. SSSRI's R&D effort covers development of new type ships, transportation technology, marine engine control systems, navigation safety, telecommunications, environment engineering, automation of industry process, intelligent traffic engineering, port facilities and energy-saving technology etc. Meanwhile, the SSSRI carries out certification, evaluation, development, design, manufacture and commercialization for new technique, new equipment and system engineering; besides, the institute engages in services such as technology consultation and project contracting and supervision.

On the signature ceremony, Deputy Director Zhang Chunhua and Deputy Director Cai Huixing also gave a brief introduction to the two institute. Then Prof. Xu Feng gave a report titled "The present situation and developing trend of underwater security system". The deputies of the two parts made a further discussion on the future cooperation. After the report, the visiting group was invited to visit some labs of the SSSRI.　

The cooperation on the new engineering center expressed the two institutes were determined to research and develop better underwater security guard products and make more contribution to our nation's defence enterprise.
