Last week, the British scientists disclosed that they were researching a new "sound wave" furnace. This innovative furnace was featured with the function of both cooking and freezing. Maybe it is a piece of good news to thousands of people in the country lacking of the electrical power. This new device adopts the thermoacoustic technology, which is a kind of high technology making the firewood burning more sufficiently.

This super furnace could input the heat energy into a special pipe in order to create high or low air pressure. It simulated the principle of whistle kettle to generate sound wave. Then the sound wave could be transformed into electric power by alternator. In this way could the device have enough energy to work.

The thermoacoustic technology has already been used in the space exploration and natural gas liquefaction. But it was the first time to be applied to the home appliances. Paul Riley, the designer of this device said though it would be a long way for it to come into the market, they still aimed to launch the experimental goods in 4 years.

"We hope to produce 1 million sets five years later. The expected unit price is 15-20 pounds, which is equal to 30-40 dollars." Riley said. But finally the price would depend on the size of the device.

This huge project all together cost 2 million pounds and got support from 4 British universities, the charity organization -- Practical Action, American Los Alamos National Laboratory and GP Acoustics.
