2007 International Congress on Ultrasonics (ICU) was held in Vienna during April 9 to 11, 2007. Prof. Zhang Hailan, Prof. Yang Jun and Prof. Lin Weijun from our institute attended the conference.

The International Congress on Ultrasonics is a merger of the successful conference series World Congress on Ultrasonics (WCU) and Ultrasonics International (UI). The International Congresses on Ultrasonics are launched as a new conference format to overcome the fragmentation of the scientific and engineering community working in the general field of ultrasonics. It is expected that the ICU will provide an excellent platform for the exchange between scientists from industry, academia, government and suppliers of ultrasound equipment.

All together the organization committee received more than 600 papers, among which 68 were from China. All the papers showed the new researches and applications of ultrasonics. After the warm discussion and careful consideration, the committee members agreed to pass the congress constitution and decided to set up a professional website to introduce the congress and share the ICU proceedings in a larger scale. Prof. Ewald Benes of Vienna University of Technology was elected to be the new president of the ICU Board.

At the congress dinner party, the Mayor of Vienna showed warm welcome and great thankfulness to our Chinese visitors. Prof. Benes also invited us to visit his home.

Besides the regular and special sessions, the congress consists of many social and culture programs, especially the concert impressed the visitors a lot. There is a special connection between the Vienna University of Technology and music. At the location of the TU Freihaus, where the ICU takes place, there was the "Royal and Imperial private theatre on the Wieden" from 1785 to 1809. The opera "Magic Flute" by W. A. Mozart was performed here first in 1791 and was repeated 223 times.
