(SUI Shaowei of National Network New Media Engineering Research Center) On Jun.13, the next generation Internet demonstration projects (CNGI) "multi-media video on demand system", undertook by CAS Institute of Acoustics successfully passed the acceptance test.

Prof. Ni Hong, principal of project, gave a report about the project including the task, implementation, results and funds. The project is the CNGI demonstration project of the National Development and Reform Commission and the application of business model pilot projects, with a total investment 24 million yuan (4.5 million yuan allocated from the State). In accordance with the plan, the project team studied the architecture of launched the CNGI-based multi-media video on demand system, researched the facilities and carried out application demonstration.

Through the implementation of the project, a two-layer structure of the P2P video on demand system of multi-media was completed on IPv6, a pilot project and application demonstration was launched on the CNGI network. It had achieved outstanding progress in the next generation of multimedia-demand video network and played a positive role in network new media industry.

In the development and applications of core product, it completed many systems with fully independent intellectual property, such as distribution and service system of tiered P2P media content, operational support systems, network management system, media processing center, digital rights management systems, business portal system, and achieved a small production of Embedded media terminal for family. Since May of 2007, the system has been tested on the CNGI network of Shanghai Jiao tong University, making a good demonstration effect, and won a broad market prospect.

During the whole Project, 23 standardized patterns of tests and related technologies are formulated, 10 inventions and patents are applied, 33 papers are published, 2 books about IPv6 and P2P are translated. The project has brought 11 volume files, and cultivated 5 PhD students and 21 master students.

The Experts listened and reviewed the final project report, equipments, files and financial report on the workplace. Through questioning and discussing, the experts agreed that: the project "multi-media video on demand system" completes all the plans, reaches the goal, and approved project passed the acceptance test.

Ju Qi, vice president of IOA, attended the acceptance meeting and gave a speech. She gave heartful thankness to the National Development and Reform Commission for its support towards our institute, and appreciated the project team for their hard work. She also said she would organize the application and implementation of the following related projects well.
