From Nov. 29 to Dec. 4, 2007, Dr. Philip Leistner, Dr. Horst and Mr. ZHOU Xiaoru of Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft visited our institute and signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of IBP.

Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is a leading organization for technical and organizational innovations in Germany, as well as in Europe. At present, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft maintains about 80 research units, including 58 Fraunhofer Institutes, at over 40 different locations in Germany. Among them, Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) deals with research, development, testing, demonstration and consulting in the fields of building physics and environmental acoustics and obtained great achievements in this field. The leaders of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft paid great attention to the international cooperation. As early as in 1985, the institute signed scientific cooperation agreement with CAS. IBP and IACAS kept on good term with each other for a long time. In 1997, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft granted Academician MA Dayou the Fraunhofer Gold Medal and ALFA award in order to prize his great contribution in noise control. IBP played an important role in introducing the Academician MA's Capillary Sound Absorption Theory to the world.

On the morning of Nov. 30, Director TIAN Jing bestowed the certificate on Dr. Philip Leistner and formally invited him to be the guest professor of IACAS. After that, Prof. Philip made a report titled: "Activated Resonance Systems as Silencers and Sound Absorbers". In his report, Prof. Philip first introduced the history, operation and management mode of IBP, as well as the research direction and personnel administration situation. Then Prof. Philip detailedly introduced their researches on active sound absorber, including the strategy and implementation of noise control. At last, Prof. Philip proposed the future research direction of noise control researches and put forward the advice for long-term cooperation between two sides. The audience rewarded Prof. Philip??s wonderful report with warm applause.

On Dec. 3, IACAS and IBP Cooperation Agreement Signature Ceremony was held in IACAS. The leaders of IACAS and the related researchers attended the ceremony. Director TIAN Jing and Prof. Philip Leistner signed the memorandum on behalf of the two institutes. According to the agreement, the two institutes would carry out long-term and comprehensive cooperation in talents cultivation, program application, achievement-sharing and would work hand in hand to promote greater development in building acoustics and noise control engineering. Director TIAN Jing and Prof. Philip Leistner delivered reports in the ceremony, respectively and all extended best wishes for the future cooperation between the two institutes.

During the stay in Beijing, the guests also visited some other institutes of CAS and some newly built constructions, such as the National Center for Performing Arts, National Swimming Center "Water Cube" and so on.
