On Nov.16, Academician LI Qihu attended the seminar cooperatedly organized by the Science and Technology Department and Feeble Signal Detecting Lab and detailedly introduced the situation of PRUAC'2007 for all the audience.

Pacific Rim Underwater Acoustic Conference (PRUAC'2007) was held in Vancouver, BC, Canada from Oct. 3 to 5. Surrounding the theme of "Underwater Ambient Noise: Characterization, Applications, and Impacts", the conference was featured with the following aspects: 1. to understand marine noise in new points of view; 2. to study marine noise in new thoughts; 3. to expand the research of marine noise in new methods. Academician LI Qihu, Russian Professor Gordienko, American Professor Kuperman and Australian Professor Cato were invited as the featured speakers to deliver speeches in the conference. The title of Academician LI's report titled "A new type of vector sensor and its application in ambient noise measurement". The reports in the conference were all with various features and brought many innovative and creative ideas, such as what is noise economics; how to measure underwater radiation noise by drilling platform and so on. All these research fields were still new for the colleagues in our country and worth our further study in the future.

The about 70 scholars presented at the conference were from all over the world, such as America, Canada, China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Australia and so on. Acoustic Society of China (ASC) was one of the sponsors of the conference and Prof. Li Fenghua of IACAS was appointed to be the member of Scientific Program Committee. The PRUAC'2009 would be held in China.
