Prof. Blauert from Institute of Communication Acoustics (IKA) of Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany visited IACAS from Apr. 14 to 27.
Jens Blauert studied communication engineering at Aachen and received Doctor-of-Engineering degree in 1969. Since 1974 he held a chair in electrical engineering and acoustics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, where he founded the Institute of Communication Acoustics. His major scientific fields of interest cover spatial hearing, binaural technology, aural architecture, perceptual quality, speech technology, virtual environments and telepresence. Prof. Blauert was the author/coauthor of more than 150 scientific articles and books, supervisor of 52 successful PhD projects and has been awarded several patents. He has received various scientific medals and awards and was elected Fellow of ASA, IEEE, IoA, and AES, as well as honorary member of the German audiological society, DGA, and the Polish acoustical society, PAS. Prof. Blauert has also been a visiting professor in the well-known universities of various countries worldwide.
During his visit, Prof. Blauert held 3 lectures on binaural hearing, calculation models of hearing, hearing environment and communication acoustics, respectively. He introduced the most recent developments and achievements he and his colleges have made in human auditory perception fields over the recent years. After each lecture, friendly discussion was followed. Prof. Blauert also paid a visit to the acoustic laboratories and was deeply impressed by the research ability of IACAS. Many professors and graduate students attended the lectures and expressed they benefited a lot from the lectures.
