China was approved to be the host of the 10th WESPAC (Western Pacific Acaoustics Conference) in Beijing from Sep.23 to Sep.25, 2009. This decision was made in a meeting of the Western Pacific Commission for Acoustics (WPCA) in Seoul, Korea on Jun. 25, 2006. 15 delegates attended the meeting, including Academician Zhang Renhe, General Director Tian Jing and Prof. Li Fenghua from Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS).
In the meeting, Academician Zhang Renhe was elected to be the chairman of WPCA from 2006 to 2009. Prof. Li Fenghua handed in the application for holding the 10th WESPAC, on behalf of IACAS and Chinese Acoustical Society. The application was finally approved after a careful consideration and discussion by the delegates of the commission.
On the closing ceremony of the 9th WESPAC, Director Tian Jing introduced the preparation work of the 10th conference and the environment and sceneries of Beijing, the host country, for the delegates. Moreover, he formally invited all the delegates to China to attend the 10th WESPAC in 2009.
