Abstract: Sept. 29, 2016 marks the 80th birthday of Prof. Hou Chaohuan, an academician of the CAS, a life fellow member of IEEE and a researcher of IACAS. Despite his senior age, Prof. Hou keeps on swimming to train his body and mind, staying fit and sharp. As one of his former students, in this preface I wish to share his academic experience, his research spirit, and congratulate him on his remarkable achievements. May he keep on opening new chapters in his passionate pursuit of science.
