Abstract The sound absorption of fluid-loaded thin-panel absorbers was investigated. A general theory and an approximate theory are given. Parameters of potential energy kinetic energy, and the fluid-loading factor are proposed. This has made the absorption mechanism clearer, and the computation simpler than before. This absorption coefficients and impedances of thin-panel absorbers were tested with a hydro-acoustical tube. The experimental results agreed well with the theoretical results.
