From November 28 to 30, 2018, the three-person delegation led by Prof. Philip Leistner from Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) visited the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS). Invited by Prof. YANG Jun, the director of CAS Key Laboratory of Noise and Vibration Research, the delegation came to discuss the progress of ICON Project--Acoustic Metamaterials (ACME) undertook jointly by IBP and IACAS.

On November 28, Prof. YANG host an academic meeting. Prof. SUI Fusheng introduced the project progress in noise control, and then doctoral students ZHAO Han and SUN Xuecong reported the recent research developments in acoustic metamaterials.

On November 29, Prof. Philip delivered an academic report titled “New Project Initiatives of Fraunhofer IBP”, which covered several projects carried out by IBP. During the discussion session, Prof. Philip patiently answered questions from the audience.

Then Dr. Peter also gave a report to introduce the application of acoustic metamaterials in building physics.

Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) affiliates to Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which is a leading organization for technical and organizational innovations in Germany, as well as in Europe. At present, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft maintains about 80 research units, including 58 Fraunhofer Institutes, at over 40 different locations in Germany.

Dealing with research, development, testing, demonstration and consulting in the fields of building physics and environmental acoustics, Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) has obtained great achievements in this field.

The leaders of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft paid great attention to international cooperation. Early in 1985, the institute signed scientific cooperation agreement with CAS.

IBP and IACAS kept on good term with each other for a long time. In 1997, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft granted Academician MA Dayou the Fraunhofer Gold Medal and ALFA award in order to honor his great contribution in noise control. Moreover, IBP played an important role in introducing the Academician MA's Capillary Sound Absorption Theory to the world.
