Prof. DONG Hefeng from Norwegian University of Science and Technology delivered an academic report titled "Marine sediment characterization using shear source data" in the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on July 9.

Prof. DONG Hefeng was invited by CAS Key Laboratory of Underwater Acoustic Environment. Prof. ZENG Juan host the meeting and nearly 30 researchers and graduate students attended.

Focusing on the innovative progress in Bayesian estimation of the submarine geoacoustic model and shear wave profile inversion from shear source signal, Prof. DONG Hefeng also introduced newest development of underwater acoustic communication at high latitude and complex sea areas.

In the Q&A session, Prof. DONG Hefeng exchanged ideas on local acoustical parameters inversion with the audience, and discussed in detail about cooperative research in the future, student exchange issues and cooperation memorandum with IOA.

Prof. DONG Hefeng received her Doctor's degree in 1994 from JILIN University. During 1998-1999 and 2000-2001 she was doing her postdoctoral researcher at the Norwegian university of science and technology. Since 2002, she worked as a professor at Norwegian university of science and technology.

Prof. DONG Hefeng mainly engaged in the study of characteristics of environmental noise, acoustic logging, acoustic parameters in pore media and inversion of bottom sediment. Currently, she is working on acoustical inversion of sea bottom, especially the inversion of shear wave velocity profile from the surface wave dispersion property.
