On November 7, the Rector of Silesian University of Technology (SUT), Professor Arkadiusz Mężyk, etc. visited our institute, invited by Professor WANG Xiaomin, the Director of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA). The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the SUT and IOA.

Professors Arkadiusz Mężyk and Marek Pawełczyk are internationally renowned professionals in the research areas of mechanical engineering and acoustics. During their visit, they gave two presentations entitled “Optimizing dynamic characteristics of mining machines” and “Active reduction of device acoustic noise by controlling vibration of the device casing”. Researchers and students from the IOA had an in-depth discussion with two professors.

Professor YANG Jun, the Director of the Key Lab of Noise and Vibration Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, also briefly introduced the research work and accompanied them to visit the laboratory following the presentations.

Better understanding between the SUT and IOA was achieved in this visit. Cooperative agreements were made and a MOU was signed in order to promote academic exchanges, post-graduate education and project collaborations. The collaboration will initiate mutual development in noise and vibration control and other relevant research areas, which is a big step forward towards the Government’s strategy of ‘New Silk Road’.

The SUT was founded in 1945, and it is one of the most prestigious and top-ranked technical universities in Poland, located in Upper Silesia. Its Faculties cover the whole range of engineering disciplines, as well as elements of management, sociology and administration, for example, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Chemistry, etc. The university offers undergraduates and post-graduates the subjects of selected curriculum of the course in English and Polish, including Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering, etc. The SUT also participates actively in international collaboration, and has established good cooperative relationship with many universities.

The 21st International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV21) was held by our Institute in Beijing, 2014. Professor Marek Pawełczyk, the President of the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV), was invited to give a speech at the opening ceremony. Since then, both IOA and SUT have dedicated to expanding communications as a basis for good collaboration relationship.
