Prof. Xiang-Gen Xia from the University of Delaware, invited by Prof. YAN Shefeng, paid two days’ visit to the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) during 29th -30th January. Prof. Xia introduced next generation SAR (synthetic aperture radar) imaging, by providing a new model for SAR imaging.
The new model of transmiting and receiving signal in SAR imaging used OFDM signaling. In the simulation results, it had better performance than the linear frequency modulated, random noise and conventional OFDM SAR imaging. Prof. Xia also presented a solution to the pulse length problem for wide swath SAR. To design an arbitrary length OFDM pulse, he designed the subcarrier weights in the frequency domain so that its time domain discrete sequence satisfied the zero head tail property.
Prof. Xia’s new method of sufficient cyclic prefix based OFDM SAR may be a promising technique to improve range resolution with zero sidelobes (or inter-range-cell interference free) in the range reconstruction. It also has advantages for the MIMO radar to overcome the existing MIMO radar shortcomings, in particular for the statistical MIMO radar.
Prof. Xia also discussed the OFDM and MIMO solution in the underwater acoustic communication systems for the NSFC projects with the underwater acoustic communication researchers of IOA, and offered suggestions as well.
