On Nov. 23, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences Beijing Branch and Beijing Haidian District Commission of Education and undertaken by the IACAS, the “Chinese Academy of Sciences Open Day” was successfully held.

The “Chinese Academy of Sciences Open Day” belongs to the “National Education System Reform Basic Education Project- Training Mode of Exploring Outstanding Innovative Talents”. Teachers and students from the schools of the Haidian District were invited to this activity.

The audio laboratory, underwater acoustic test pool, China's manned deep-sea research submersible Jiaolong, ocean acoustic instruments, 3D TV, acoustic imaging instrument, high directivity loudspeaker, ultrasound guide apparatus, wireless and passive SAW temperature sensor and speech recognition, all of these from IACAS aroused great interests amongst the pupils. They just stayed there to watch and feel the technologies and secrets behind them.

After they looked around these laboratories, the guests and leaders from IACAS had a formal discussion on cultivation of young talents and popularization of science among the pupils, hosted by IACAS Administrative Office Director CHENG Yang.

In the discussion, IACAS Party Secretary ZHANG Chunhua welcomed all to IACAS and said, “IACAS pays high attention to science communications and commits itself to social responsibilities.” ZHANG also pointed that personnel training, especially the youth talent training and postgraduate education was attached great importance in IACAS.

Leaders from Chinese Academy of Sciences Beijing Branch and Beijing Haidian District Commission of Education made their speeches respectively in the discussion. The “Chinese Academy of Sciences Open Day” is to let the pupils go into the universities and research institutes to perceive the science and meanwhile to inspire their scientific spirits. The IACAS is the first stop of the “Chinese Academy of Sciences Open Day” series of activities.

Teachers and students also had warm interaction with researchers from National Network New Media Engineering Research Center, Noise and Vibration Laboratory, Ocean Acoustic Technology Laboratory and Jiaolong sea diver YANG Bo of IACAS.

Students expressed that they had learned a lot during the visit and gained a better understanding of IACAS and hoped they could have more chances to receive guidance from acoustic experts and scholars, as well to study the expertise of the acoustic field.
