(LIU Danxiao of Key Lab of Noise and Vibration Research) Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS) and University of Southampton (UoS) held a signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding in IACAS on September 2, 2011. Ms. Ju Qi, the deputy director of IACAS, and Prof. Jeremy Astley, the director of Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) of UoS, signed the memorandum on behalf of their respective institutions.

According to the consensus reached by both sides, IACAS and UoS wish to develop academic exchanges and cooperation in teaching and research to increase their mutual understanding in the furtherance of the advancement and dissemination of learning. According to the memorandum, they will cooperate in the following ways:

(a) exchanging scientific, academic, and technical information and materials as well as any other information of mutual interest;

(b) establishing an academic exchange program which will include mutual visits from faculty and school members as well as exchanging students on reciprocal basis;

(c) identifying opportunities for the commercialisation of technology and participation of joint academic and scientific activities such as seminars and conferences.

After the ceremony, Prof. Astley, accompanied by Prof. Yang Jun, visited the Key Laboratory of Noise and Vibration Research, and he gave a seminar on the topic of "Computational Aero-Acoustics, for Aircraft Noise Prediction".

University of Southampton is a British public university offering higher education. It is located in the city of Southampton, England. The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research(ISVR) of UoS is a very famous research centre on acoustics and vibration, which consists of four research groups including Dynamics, Fluid Dynamics and Acoustics, Human Sciences and Signal Processing and Control.
