Annual Meeting of CAS Key Lab of Noise and Vibration Research Held

 | |

(From ZHOU Yi of CAS Key Lab of Noise and Vibration Research) The annual meeting of the academic committee of the Key Lab of Noise and Vibration Research (KLNVR), Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held at the beginning of 2011, in Beijing. On behalf of the lab, Prof. YANG Jun, reported on the research outputs achieved in 2010, the laboratory work plan for 2011 and the Twelfth Five-Year plan of the lab. Members fully endorsed the research over the past year, and put forward some valuable suggestions for the laboratory. Prof. SUN Xiaofeng from BUAA and Prof. Yu Mengsa from CSIC shared their excellent research findings with all the participants.

The meeting was hosted by Prof. TIAN Jing, the director of the Academic Committee of the lab. On behalf of the lab, Prof. YANG Jun reported laboratory work summary of the past year and laboratory work plan of next year. He also gave the focus of development direction in the Twelfth Five-Year plan. Prof. Yang first emphasized the lab's research directions and topics, which are centered at serving economic development and at solving multi-level noise and vibration related research problems. Meanwhile, the lab's target of conducting research with a few emphases on essential fundamental research, key techniques and system integration was strengthened. Novel ideas, methods and directions are to be developed so as to provide the society new knowledge, critical key techniques and solutions. Next, Prof. Yang gave a detailed introduction of the lab research summary and achievements acquired over the past year. He analyzed the research outputs in a few fields such as hi-speed train noise control techniques, high quality underwater acoustic material study and microphone array imaging and measurement techniques. With the development of these research activities, the lab members also succeeded in various aspects ranging from research funding applications, invention/patents, to academic publications, all of which are among the top in the institutional evaluation and suggest the lab's steady and robust development. After listening to Prof. Yang's report, all experts expressed their acknowledgement of the lab's success and progress and raised their positive concerns and constructive suggestions on its future plans and strategies. They said the lab was particularly expected to maintain the advantage of its leading principles, to explore other noise and vibration related research topics, and to further strengthen novel fundamental research. At the rest part of the meeting, all participants actively shared their ideas and suggestions of various aspects, gradually clarifying some key points concerning lab's future development.

Prof. SUN Xiaofeng from Beihang University and Prof. YU Mengsa from Institute 702, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation made two wonderful reports, titled by "Transfer element method and applications on aeroacoustics" and "Research progress of hydrodynamic noise" respectively. Significant progresses in aircraft noise control and ship noise control were reported. Noise control research methods and their applications were presented in the fields. The reports raised the enthusiastic response of the participants, and played a very good reference for the academic development of the laboratory.

Through this meeting, all lab members were greatly encouraged and formed strong will of building a top research lab in the upcoming new era!
