(National Laboratory of Acoustics)The 10th Western Pacific Acoustics Conference (WESPAC X) successfully held at Beijing Friendship Hotel from Sep.21 to 23, 2009. Prof. Renhe Zhang from National Laboratory of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences is Conference President. Prof. Jing Tian from Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences is General Chairman. Prof. Jing Tian, Prof. Renhe Zhang and Prof. Jungyul Na delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. The leaders of Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences were presented at the opening ceremony and the conference session.
The conference was co-organized by Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Acoustical Society of China, National Laboratory of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was sponsored by Chinese Academy of Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Western Pacific Commission for Acoustics. Many well-known experts and scholars on Acoustics in China and overseas had a very active response to the conference. More than 300 delegates and 5 exhibitors from 28 countries and regions attended the conference.
More than 260 papers were presented in 49 technical or special sessions, including 3 distinguished lectures. The technical topics of WESPAC X include Underwater Acoustics, Underwater Communication, Sonar System and Signal Processing, Physical Acoustics, Architectural Acoustics, Environmental Acoustics and Vibration, Aeroacoustics, Speech Communication, Musical Acoustics, Audio in Multimedia, Ultrasonic Medical Equipments, etc. All these high-level papers presented their latest progress, results and highlights in these topics. By taking the opportunity to attend the conference, many well-known foreign experts and scholars paid a visit to IACAS and other acoustics research institutes in China, which laid a good foundation for the international exchanges and cooperation in the future.
The organizer of WESPAC X offered a good service to the delegates, including the free internet, conference equipments, etc. The volunteers also provided their enthusiastic and professional services, which not only fully showed the good quality of china youth, but also improved their abilities to communicate with international researchers.

The Western Pacific Acoustics Conference is initiated by Western Pacific Commission for Acoustics in 1982, which focuses on international acoustics academic and technological exchanges and is held every three years.
Before WESPAC X 2009, Western Pacific Commission for Acoustics had a meeting and elected the new chairman and members. Furthermore, they decided the 11th Western Pacific Acoustics Conference would be held in Hong Kong, China in 2012.
