New Leader of the Institute of Acoustics

WANG Xiaomin, an expert in Ultrasonics, has recently been appointed as new director of the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Science (IACAS). He is to succeed Prof. TIAN Jing, who has been the director of the institute over the past decade, to head the comprehensive institute, which mainly devoted into the theory and application researches on acoustics and digital signal processing.

Wang, 49, received his doctor degree from IACAS in 1998 and furthered his researches as a visiting scholar in Duke University in 2002. His main research field includes ultrasonic nondestructive testing, propagation and radiation of sound wave in complicated solid medium. He has published more than 50 academic papers in domestic and international journals and was granted 2 invention patents by the authority organization in China.

Prof. Wang has been honored with many awards, including National Defense Science and Science & Technology Progress Award of 2nd grade by Commission of Technology and Industry in 2004 and the State Science & Technology Progress Award of 2nd grade in 2005.
