On Apr.28, Prof. Shi Xizhi from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visited North Sea Station of IACAS and gave brilliant lecture titled "Blind Signal Processing and its application in sonar system".

Professor Shi Xizhi, Director of signal Processing & Condition Monitoring group of State key Laboratory for Vibration, Shock & Noise, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Since 1958 to 1979, he worked with an aero-propulsion Laboratory and was a research engineer in the field of control systems and data analysis. He joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1979. His current major topics include: signal processing including non-stationary and nonlinear methods; black board-based signal interpretation system; information fusion in feature level and decision-level; fault diagnostic and monitoring; and intelligent control. His group had completed three research projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, United Technologies, and SKF Condition Monitoring Inc. respectively in past two years. Prof. Shi is the member of Academic Committee of State Key Laboratory for Vibration, Shock & Noise, member of the Board of Editors of international Journal of Intelligent Control Systems and members of the board of Editors of three Chinese Journals.

In his three-hour long lecture, Prof. Shi vividly described what he saw and heard when he gave lectures in European countries. His wonderful speech won enthusiastic applause from the audience. Combining his rich research experience, he introduced the latest application of blind signal processing in radar, medicine, transportation and so on. He especially made a detailed statement of blind signal processing's application in sonar system. After the lecture, Prof. Shi and the audience had a warm discussion on the hot issues.
