Ultrasonic Physics and Testing Lab held two academic salons in the early months this year, which received good feedback from the staff members and students in the lab. In order to maintain the sound atmosphere, the lab held the third academic salon on Mar.31. Two reporters shared their research experience with the audience.
The first speaker was An Zhiwu. The title of his report was "Introduction of Non-linear acoustics". He started his report from the non-linear acoustic phenomenon in daily life and briefly introduced the development history of non-linear acoustics. He took fish-basin for example. The fish-basin is a basin with two ears on each side. When you rub the ears slowly, the water in the basin would popple like the basin was stricken. The basin was once used in wars in ancient times to retreat enemies. In the second part, he made a detailed explanation on how to solve nonlinear wave equation. He especially mentioned some parameters in non-linear acoustics, such as mach number and so on. Finally, he talked about the application of non-linear acoustics in nondestructive testing. The second speaker was Ding Hongyu. The title of her report was "Brief Introduction of FPGA". First of all, she briefly talked about the development history, basic structure and category of FPGA and shared his experience in how to choose the proper FPGA chip. She said FPGA had the characteristics of being faster and higher integrated than other programmable devices. It can change the hardware structure by re-reprogramming the software and can do the high-speed data collecting and processing based on the fast data processing ability of DSP. Then, she furthered her report by talking about the language of hardware program and related software, the practical application of FPGA in phased array acoustic wave imaging system. At last, she pointed out the differences between Single Chip Micyoco, FPGA and DSP and their different use in practical research.
The two reports obtained warm applause from the audience and a warm discussion was followed.
