Prof. Tian Jing, President of Acoustical Society of China was elected the board member of I-INCE on the 37th International Congress and Exhibition on Noise Control Engineering (Inter-Noise 2008), which was held from Nov. 26 to 29 in Shanghai. He will be on duty for a term of five years.
The International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) founded in 1974 is a worldwide consortium of organizations concerned with noise control, acoustics and vibration. The primary focus of the Institute on unwanted sounds and on vibrations producing such sounds when transduced. I-INCE is the sponsor of the INTER-NOISE Series of International Congresses on Noise Control Engineering held annually in leading cities of the world. Since 1972, it had been successively held for 37 times, and the 16th and the 37th one were held in China. I-INCE co-sponsors symposia on specialized topics within the I-INCE field of interest. The quarterly magazine Noise/News International, reaching more than five thousand specialists within the I-INCE field of interest around the world, is jointly published by I-INCE and the Institute of Noise Control Engineering of the USA (INCE/USA). In 1992, I-INCE instituted a program to undertake technical initiatives on critically-important issues of international concern within the I-INCE field of interest.
Prof. Tian Jing devotes himself to the research of noise control engineering and makes outstanding contributions in active noise control, low-frequency acoustic materials, micro-electric acoustic device and system, high sound intensity and its application in industry and so on. Prof. Tian also pays high attention to the international cooperation and collaboration in noise control engineering. Owing to his hard work, IACAS has established long-term cooperation relationship with many world well-known institutes and universities. Meanwhile, Acoustical Society of China enlarges its influence in many international academic organizations, such as ICA, I-INCE, IIAV, WESPAC and so on.
In 2004, under the leadership of Prof. Tian Jing, CAS submitted the application of sponsoring Inter-Noise 2008 to I-INCE. IACAS beat other competitors and honorly obtained the chance to hold the congress. From Oct.26 to 29, 2008, the 37th International Congress and Exhibition on Noise Control Engineering was successfully convened at the Shanghai International Convention Center. 970 delegates and 36 exhibitors from 42 countries and regions attended the conference and exhibition. Due to the tireless work and joint efforts of President Tian Jing, all the staff members and volunteers, the congress was held grandly and successfully. The attendants and board members of I-INCE highly praised it a "Great Success" and "Well Organized" congress.
