On Oct.22, the Acoustic Society of China (ASC) unveiled the results for the first "Ma Dayou Acoustic Award" in the opening ceremony of the 2008 National Academic Conference on Acoustics. Prof. Liu Ke of CAS Institute of Acoustics and Prof. Cheng Jianchun of Institute of Acoustics, Nanjing University won the honor this year. On behalf of ASC, Academician Yang Shier granted the certificate and bonus to the two winners.
"Ma Dayou Acoustic Award" was set up by ASC for praising Academician Ma Dayou's great contribution to the development of physics and acoustics in our country and the establishment of ASC and for encouraging the colleges in acoustic field to work harder for the bright future of acoustic study in our country. This award would be held every two year and each time the number of the winner would be less than two. Two board members of ASC or professors in acoustic field can recommend candidate jointly. There were 6 candidates for the award this year.
Brief introduction of the two winners:
Liu Ke is the professor of Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He had made outstanding contributions to the researches on non-linear acoustic experiment and capillary sound absorption theory.
Cheng Jianchun is the professor of Institute of Acoustics, Nanjing University. He obtained great achievements in the researches on the sound propagation in period and quasi-periodic composite medium, laser ultrasonic of solid materials and photoacoustic study.
