The 21st Pacific Asia Conference on Language, Information and Computation (PACLIC) was held at Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea from November 1-3, 2007. About 100 experts all around the world were attracted to get together and carried out warm discussions on hot topics in language, information and computation, such as linguistics, language processing, semantic annotation, formal semantics, the structuring and computing of information and so on. Prof. ZHANG Quan and Dr. WEI Xiangfeng of IACAS attended the grand event and did reports in the conference.
The Pacific Asia Conference on Language, Information and Computation series, firstly launched in 1981, is an annual meeting of scholars in theoretical and computational linguistics mainly from the Pacific Asia region. It aims to provide a forum where researchers in different fields of study can exchange and share the ideas about language, information and computation.
During the conference, Prof. ZHANG Quan and Dr. WEI Xiangfeng did reports, respectively. Prof. ZHANG Quan's reports was titled "Text Categorization for Authorship Based on the Features of Lingual Conceptual Expression", which stated a new way of adopting the features of lingual conceptual expression to categorize the authorship. Dr. WEI Xiangfeng's report was titled "Research on Model of Extracting Persons' Information Based on Statistic Method and Conceptual Knowledge", which detailedly explained that conceptual knowledge was a model and way to extract person's information. After the reports, the two speakers all gave detail explanations on the questions the audience interested in.
Owing to the conference, our researchers had a further exchange with the experts all over the world, obtained the new information about the latest progress and methods in language processing field and expanded the influence and reputation of HNC in the international world.
