The 19th International Congress on Acoustics was held in Madrid, Spain from Sep.2-7. Owing to the nomination of Acoustical Society of China (ASC), Academician HOU Chaohuan was reappointed to be the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA) board member for 2007-2010.
The International Commission for Acoustics (ICA) was instituted in 1951 as a subcommittee to the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP). The ICA has also applied to become an Affiliated Commission of the International Union of Applied and Theoretical Mechanics (IUTAM). The purpose of the International Commission on Acoustics (ICA) is to promote international development and collaboration in all fields of acoustics including research, development, education, and standardization. The ICA became a Scientific Associate of the International Council for Science ICSU in 2006. Acoustical Society of China is one of the 45 member societies of ICA. Academician MA Dayou and Academician ZHANG Renhe both have been appointed to be the deputies of ASC in ICA.
The main responsibility of ICA is to hold the International Congress Acoustics every three years. Since the first of Congress was held in Delft in 1953, it had been successively held for 19 times. The 14th congress was held in Beijing in 1992 and the 20th congress will be held in Sydney, Australia in 2010.
