From Aug.28 to 29, a group of researchers from Ultrasonic Physics and Testing Lab attended the 2nd Anniversary Conference on "The Sound Field in Inhomogeneous Anisotropic Porous Formation Borehole" held in Jilin University. The project was jointly undertaken by IACAS, China University of Petroleum and Jilin University. The program was launched last year and the first annual report conference was held at the end of last August. The aim of the 2nd conference was to have a review of the current situation of all the work and found ways to solve the existent problems and difficulties to ensure the whole program fulfilled on the schedule. The dean of the Physics Department of Jilin University extended the warm welcome to all the participants and sincerely hoped the two sides could have more cooperation in the future.
The conference consisted of several sections, which were chaired by Prof. Zhang Hailan, Prof. Qiao Wenxiao and Prof. Wang Kexie, respectively. There were 23 independent reports, covering every aspect of the whole program, such as acoustic waveguide theory in complex structure, the sound propagation in porous media, the inversion of initial ground stress, multipole array acoustic tool and so on. Each report aroused warm discussion. After all the reports, Prof. Zhang Hailan, the general principal of the project made comment on the present work and pointed out the subjects and plans for next step.
Furthermore, Director Zhang Shouzhu was also invited to attend the conference. He is the director of Mathematics and Physics Department (Physics I Section) of National Natural Foundation of China. Director Zhang showed great concerns for this project and participated in 1st annual conference. After listened to the reports, Director Zhang highly praised all the researchers for the achievements they had got and expressed full confidence for the successful accomplishment of the program as scheduled.
