The 14th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (ICSV14) was held at the Cairns Convention Centre in Cairns, Australia, 9-12 July, 2007. Under the leadership of Director Tian Jing, a group of our institute was sent to join the conference, including Prof. Li Xiaodong and 3 other members.

This conference was sponsored by the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV), the Australian Acoustical Society (AAS) and University of New South Wales (UNSW) and got great support from International Union Technical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM). More than 500 representatives from different parts of the world attended the conference. There were 7 keynote speeches and 500 structured sessions. Theoretical and experimental research papers in the fields of acoustics, noise and vibration were presented. The contents covered many branches of acoustics and vibration studies, including noise control, computational acoustics, active noise and vibration control, sound-absorbing material, non-linear acoustics, noise and vibration measuring, underwater acoustics, vibration control, bioacoustics, architectural acoustics and so on.

During the conference, as the sponsor of Inter-noise2008, IACAS also sent out many brochures to broadly publicize the 37th International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering, which would be held in Shanghai in 2008. This kind of propagation activity received good effects.

After the conference, Director Tian of IACAS and Prof. Jie Pan of University of Western Australia organized an academic discussion. More than 20 Chinese deputies had a warm discussion on the latest research results and the hot issues in the acoustics field.
