Doctor Tian Jing was born in Mengcheng County, Anhui Province in May, 1960. He obtained his bachelor degree from the Department of Physics of Nanjing University in 1982, master degree from the Department of Information Physics of Nanjing University in 1984. From 1984 to 1987, Doctor Tian had worked in the Institute of Acoustics, Nanjing University as an assistant professor. He obtained his doctor degree from Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS) in Dec, 1991. Since 1991, he devoted himself to acoustical researches in IACAS. He was appointed as associate professor in 1992 and promoted to professor and doctoral supervisor in 1995. Doctor Tian made his acoustical researches as a visiting scholar in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Western Australia and Flinders University, respectively, making his great contributions to the international cooperation and exchanges. He was the Director of IACAS from Sep.2001 to Jan.2008.

He is now the director of the Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and as a doctoral supervisor in IACAS. He also takes much social responsibilities with the titles such as the guest professor of Nanjing University, the president of Chinese Acoustical Society, subeditor of ACTA ACUSTICA, editorial member of Applied Acoustics, deputy director of China National Technical Standardization Committee on Acoustics, executive council member of Chinese Sonar Technology Society, executive council member of the Chinese Society for Environment Sciences, director of the Environmental Physics Society, executive council member of Chinese Electron Society and the executive council member and fellow of International Institute of Acoustics and Viberation (IIAV).

Doctor Tian's main research field covers electroacoustics and noise control. He has made his great efforts in accomplishment of more than 40 projects for National Natural Science Foundation, "863 Program", "973 Program" and important international exchanges and cooperation of CAS.

Doctor Tian has published more than 140 papers in journals or international conferences. He was granted 20 patents. For his reputation in acoustical world, he was frequently invited to give important academic lectures home and abroad.

For his excellent research work and great contribution in acoustics, Doctor Tian won a series of prize: "Active Noise Elimination" was honored Science & Technology Progress Award of 2nd grade by State Education Commission in 1989; "The Development of Active Antinoise Ear Muff and Receiver" was honored Science & Technology Progress Award of 1st grade by the Ministry of Electronic Industry in 1993 and State Science & Technology Award of 3rd grade in 1995; and "Heater Sound Wave Ash Removal Technology" was honored Science & Technology Progress Award of 3rd grade by China Petrochemical Corporation and Jiang Su province respectively. He won "Du Lianrao Acoustics Award" of 2nd grade in 2000. In Sep. 2004, he was one of the outstanding young scientists elected in the "New Century Talents Project" jointly organized by the State Ministry of Personnel, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Commission of Development and Reform, Committee of Natural Science Foundation and Chinese Association of Science and Technology.
