Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are attractive for monitoring and gathering physical information (e.g. temperature) via lots of deployed sensors. For the applications in WSNs, Web service is one of the recommended frameworks to publish, invoke, and manage services. However, the standard Web service description language (WSDL) defines only the service input and output while ignoring the corresponding input-to-output mapping relationships. This presents a serious challenge in distinguishing services with similar input and output interface, and leads to some unnecessary service redundancy.
XU Yuemei, NIU Wenjia et al. embed the service policy into traditional WSDL2.0 schema for the description of service Input–Output Mapping relationships. Following this, a novel redundancy detection approach is further proposed to detect the service redundancy for improving the efficiency of service retrieval, and to utilize the redundancy to achieve more reliable WSNs’ services.
Of this design, a sevice policy is defined to represent the Input–Output Mapping relationships, which describes the conditions that need to be satisfied by the service input before the service can be executed. In order to be consistent with the original WSDL2.0 structure, the service policy is embedded into the service function description of WSDL. With this extension, the link from the service input to output is no longer a black-box, and can be utilized in the service redundancy detection.Based on the policy-based WSDL extension, a Web services redundancy detection approach is also designed for service similarity calculation and service detection. Finally, a case study and the experimental analysis illustrate the applicability and capability of the proposed approach.
