Content Centric Networking (CCN) is emerging as a new paradigm, where the communication is centered around named-data, rather than host addresses. And in-network caching is considered as one of the crucial features in CCN, and exhibits fundamental difference from the past overlay caching schemes, such as P2P, web-caching and CDN. However, How to forward user requests towards the “best” (e.g., closest) available replica is challenging. An effective collaborative caching mechanism can avoid this problem.
Collaborative caching has been well researched to improve the network performance. And it is observed that CCN needs a simple collaborative caching mechanism, inorder to accommodate its new features, such as line speed requirement and ubiquitous caching nodes.
So XU Yuemei, LI Yang et al. propose a dominating-set-based collaborative caching with request routing in CNN to solve the problem of forwarding user requests to the closest content copies and designing the content placement accordingly.
Of this design, a dominating set method is introduced to explore the network topologyinformation and construct a virtual backbone network in CCN. Then based on the constructed network topology, a collaborative caching mechanism is proposed for jointly considering the content placement and request routing.
Extensive evaluation has been performed on the developed chunk-level CCN simulation environment. The results show that the proposed mechanism outperforms the conventional caching cooperation with default routing.
