From November 19 to 24, 2018, invited by CAS Academician LI Qihu and CAS Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Advanced Underwater Acoustic Signal Processing, Prof. Lobanov and Prof. Vladimir A. Bulanov from V.I.II’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute, Fareast Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences Visited the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IACAS) and signed agreements on scientific and technological cooperation.

Prof. Lobanov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is the director of the V.I.II’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute, Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. Prof. Vladimir A. Bulanov served as the director of the Department of Marine Physics.

On November 21, Prof. Vladimir A. bulanov discussed with researchers and postgraduates of the Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Advanced Underwater Acoustic Signal Processing in the areas of acoustic field scattering, parametric arrays, underwater acoustic communication and navigation, providing technical assistance for related research projects.

On November 22, Acadamician Lobanov gave an academic report entitled “V.I.II’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute: 45 year study the ocean”, introducing the research field of their institute, the team of experts, the situation of foreign cooperation, and the long history of cooperation with IACAS. Then, Prof. Bulanov gave an academic report entitled “Underwater acoustics researches in the V.I.II’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute”, detailing the results of marine survey experiments and theoretical research conducted by Russian in the Pacific and Arctic regions using acoustics technology. These reports attracted researchers and students not only from IACAS, but also from the Ocean University of China and many other institutes.

Based on the communication, the two institutes signed a series of agreements on scholar visiting, joint research, cooperation experiments, and future cooperation mechanism.

Established in 1973, the V.I.II’ichev Pacific Oceanological Institute is the largest research institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Far East. Its research fields include oceanography, ocean chemistry and ecology, marine geology, geophysics, underwater acoustics, and measuring instruments, conducted mainly in the Pacific and Arctic regions.
