During July 1st to 3rd, the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) held the 5th academic conference celebrating its 50th anniversary in Beijing.

IOA leadership headed by Director WANG Xiaomin and Party Committee Secretary ZHANG Chunhua as well as IOA successive directors HOU Ziqiang, LI Qihu, TIAN Jing and so on, CAS Members ZHANG Renhe, HOU Chaohuan and WANG Chenghao together with more than four hundred IOA members attended the conference.

It began with the IOA traditional education video introducing IOA’s past and present in the fifty years.

Director WANG Xiaomin was delivering the opening address

Director WANG Xiaomin delivered the opening address, reviewing IOA's development course through the half century. Guided by pioneers WANG Dezhao, MA Dayou, YING Chongfu and so on, IOA had experienced institute startup, hard times, recovery, exploration and rapid development. IOA generations had shouldered the responsibility and mission of the times to meet the nation’s major strategic need and made its due contribution. In the meantime, WANG also said that, IOA staff had to retain prudent and modest to realize that there was still gap from expectations of the Communist Party of China and the people.

WANG pointed out this academic conference of great significance stood on the history intersection of young and middle-aged. Facing new historical opportunities and challenges, as a national team of acoustics and information processing technologies, IOA will make new and greater contributions for our nation, in the light of General Secretary XI's “Four Initiatives” new demands, around the "Innovation 2020” strategic targets, holding on to IOA’s guidelines and concentrating on “One, Three and Five” strategic planning implementation. "Harmonious, Advancing and Sustainable” IOA is our goal.

CAS Members ZHANG Renhe, HOU Chaohuan, LI Qihu and WANG Chenghao, Researchers HOU Ziqiang and TIAN Jing made their invited reports “Deep Sea Acoustics Research Progress”, "Past, Present and Future of the Unmanned Underwater Vehicle”, "Innovation-driven is Development for Acoustics Career--Review and Prospect”, "Hybrid Approach of Reverse Time Migration and Time Reversal for Acoustic Detection”, "Internet Exclusive Information System Evolution” and “The Ternary Human-cyber-physical Integration and Sea-cloud Computing” respectively, introducing their professional researches and gained knowledge to the attendees.

CAS Member ZHANG Renhe was giving his report

CAS Member ZHANG Renhe’s report “Deep Sea Acoustics Research Progress” developed from the following aspects: ultra long range deep sea communications, sound propagation of marine slope and effects of seamounts on sound propagation.

CAS Member HOU Chaohuan was giving his report

CAS Member HOU Chaohuan’s report inquired into the past, present and future of the Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) abroad and home.

CAS Member LI Qihu was giving his report

CAS Member LI Qihu reviewed IOA’s work which was ahead of time, such as neutrino searching. Besides, the latest underwater acoustics research progress, like underwater WiFi and underwater acoustic environmental effect around Arctic and adjacent waters were also expounded.

CAS Member WANG Chenghao was giving his report

CAS Member WANG Chenghao focused on the fundamentals of reverse time migration and time reversal, analyzed acoustic detection and position method used for targets in the layered medium and introduced detection image of bending plate wave on plate crack.

Researcher HOU Ziqiang was giving his report

Researcher HOU Ziqiang used plenty of examples to explain the internet exclusive information system evolution, for instance, modern IP network based global command and control system, data fusion, analysis, decision and action command using Web platform, as well as sonar signal processor, console and display by utilizing software.

Researcher TIAN Jing was giving his report

Researcher TIAN Jing presented two names  “The ternary human-cyber-physical integration and Sea-cloud computing” brought forward by CAS in the context of information development. TIAN also introduced the overall goal, typical research progress and future development of the two things.

Conference reports were taken charge of by WANG Xiuming, the host of IOA academic committee.

One hundred and sixty-one papers were included in this conference, involving underwater acoustics, audio acoustic, ultrasonic, signal and information processing, and management sciences. It covered basic research, applied basic research, applied research and engineering demonstration of the advanced technology, management innovation and others, which had most in numbers and greatest in size.

Panel discussion

After two days panel discussion, on July 3rd, the closing ceremony was held, on which the excellent papers list was announced, totally 25 selected.

Director WANG Xiaomin, Party Committee Secretary ZHANG Chunhua, Associate Director NI Hong, LI Fenghua and CAS Member WANG Chenghao awarded the certificates to the winners.

LI Fenghua made the closing speech, congratulating the successful 5th academic conference as well as the winners. He also acknowledged all the work of the attendees, the academic committee and the administration sections.
