2007 ARBOR Embedded Technology Forum was successfully held in Shanghai on May.29 and Shenzhen on May.31 respectively. The topic of this forum is "Combination of medical care and embedded technology, Promotion of Win-Win development". This forum was sponsored by ARBOR, a leading corporation in embedded technology and jointly supported by many well-known associations and corporations, such as The Shanghai Medical Instrument Trade Association, Intel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation and so on. More than 200 experts, professors, and deputies from medical device industry were attracted to attend the forum.

Prof. Niu Fengqi from CAS Institute of Acoustics delivered a speech on behalf of all the technical experts. He said the topic of the forum appropriately expressed his hope and belief. As a technical professional engaged in the researches of medical ultrasonics, exploration, measurement and standardization, he has been long paid attention to the development of both embedded technology and medical ultrasonics.

In his report, Prof. Niu first had a brief review of the development history of Ultrasonics in our country. Then he introduced the present state of ultrasonic devices and forecasted the development trend of Ultrasonics.

Since B-type ultrasonic diagnostic ap

paratus was born in our country, it experienced a winding developing history. In the 1980s, sector scanner B-ultrasound was put forward and in 1990s plane array type came out. But after that it lingered on the simulation stage for a very long period. At that time, B-ultrasound made in China gave the users an impression of "limited capacity, unclear image and frequent breakdown". However, now it has completely snapped out of its funk and put on a new look. According to Prof. Niu, the B-type ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus has successfully realized the great overstepping in digital imaging technology of B-flow. Furthermore, the Color Doppler Ultrasound based on the digital platform was widely launched to the market and received favorable comments. At the same time, with the deeper research and wider application of HIFU tumour treatment system, the medical ultrasonics once again became the focus in this field.

Every coin has its two sides. Prof. Niu also pointed out that though Ultrasonics had many advantages, it was still a small part in the whole medical engineering field. If we considered Ultrasonics as a world, the medical treatment devices industry would be the universe. The magic substances made up of the world and universe are just the numberless and various materials, apparatus, modules, chips, circuits and plates. Prof. Niu firmly believed featured with small size, high reliability and low power consumption, the embedded technology was bound to have a wider developing space if fully used in medical treatment industry. At last Prof. Niu said the ARBOR Corporation was the bellwether in B-ultrasound devices production and it is sure to have a brighter future in the future Win-win cooperation with the partners in the medical treatment industry
