Sonar Image Technology Lab organized the second academic activities on Apr.28, 2007. Professor Wei Jianjiang and Director Xu Feng gave wonderful reports, respectively.

First, our engaged Prof. Wei Jianjiang delivered a speech on the basic knowledge of underwater acoustics. Prof. Wei had been pursuing underwater acoustics for about 40 years. He owns good theoretical background and rich practical experience. In recent years, he analyzed many problems happened in the researches and summarized them into technical documents, which gave the young researchers lots of enlightenment. In his report, Prof. Wei detailedly introduced the principles of the measuring instrument, the possible design problems of the instrument, sound error of the instrument and multi-beam measuring instrument. Prof. Wei explained the profound things in a simple way and his report was warmly welcomed by the attendants.

As the following, Director Xu Feng gave us another report titled "The development trends of the Sonar Image Technology Lab". He hoped all the members in the lab could have a clear mind of the development trends and general goals of the lab. By comparing our research power and products with the international famous research institutes and advanced products, we could clearly recognize the opportunities and challenges facing us.

After the reports, the professors and students had a warm discussion. The atmosphere of the meeting was pleasant and harmonious. This kind of communication way could give the new members a perceptual knowledge of what they would do in the future and let them integrated with the lab better and faster.
